The author lays down his reasoning on how societies trend toward discord (hence the "Madness" reference in the subtitle) and how; through art in this case; persons can improve their spiritual health and their art at the same time.In the first chapters it is tempting; as a reader; to want to challenge some of his statements; especially regarding examples of the "madness" that; in Howes view; has overcome humankind.
