Hovels to Highrise: State Housing in Europe Since 1850

audiobook Hovels to Highrise: State Housing in Europe Since 1850 by Anne Power in Arts-Photography

Description

Hovels to Highrise traces how governments in five European countries became involved in replacing industrial revolution urban slums with mass high-rise; high density concrete estates. As the book considers each countrys housing history and traditions; and analyses the contrasting structures and systems; it finds convergence of problems in the growing tensions of their most disadvantaged communities. Anne Power underlines the continuing drift towards deeper polarization; a problem that the European Community will not be able to ignore with the interlocking but multi-lingual; multi-ethnic; urban societies of the future. The books detailed coverage of the historical; political amd social changes relating to housing within the various countries make it an important text for students and practitioners concerned with housing; urban affairs; social policy and administration.

Reference Library; originally published by the International Textbook Company; Scranton; Pennsylvania; in 1905. Its a brief (99 pages of text with illustrations) description of some of the observations one would make when doing academic figure drawing; especially at that time; it includes some excellent examples of the style. I give it five stars with the consideration that it does a good job of giving a limited amount of information; which is its intent. Its a good addition to an existing collection; but not a good sole reference on the subject.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Figure DrawingBy Russell BennettFigure Drawing is a complete combination of lessons to help put what you see into a drawing. Helping to understand relationships of form and lighting to give the artist a beliveable finished picture. The art of figure drawing is less complicated with J. Leonard Watsons explanations. The lessons are easy to practice and will surely make figure drawing more fun3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Dont judge a book by its cover...seriously; Dont!By Tribbey M. HarmonIm actually embarrassed to admit that I own it. This book is AWFUL! I purchased this book because the images on the cover are wonderful. I thought it would be filled to the brim with visuals of equal quality; but I was sadly mistaken. Its word to image ratio is EXTREMELY off. Its also a really short book; only about 100 pages. As soon as I got it in the mail and took my first look at it I felt like I was sold a lemon. I felt like I had been sold a vintage car with a good paint job and no engine. Moreover; the actual content within is weak; very weak. This is one of the worst books in Figure drawing Ive ever read. I strongly recommend that you NOT purchase this empty heap of nothingness.
