Ich werde mich zunauml;chst kurz mit dem Aufbau und der Baugeschichte der Liebfrauenkirche zu Trier beschauml;ftigen bevor ich mich mit Matthias Rauchmillers Lebensweg auseinandersetze. Ferner mouml;chte ich kurz auf die Urspruuml;nge der liegenden Grabmalsfigur eingehen; um mich dann dem eigentlichen Werk zuzuwenden. Ich werde das Gesehene beschreiben und das Dargestellte in seinem historischen Kontext analysieren; bevor ich auf mouml;gliche Auslegungen eingehe. Als Literatur dienten mir Borger-Kewelohs sehr ausfuuml;hrliche Studien zur Baugeschichte der Liebfrauenkirche. Erwin Panofskys Grabplastik; welches ich durch die Thematik besonders interessant fand; erouml;rterte viele historische Hintergruuml;nde und erouml;ffnete mir somit einige mouml;gliche Interpretationswege. Theurkauffs Studien zur Elfenbeinplastik des Barock - Matthias Rauchmiller und Ignaz Elhafen lieferte alle nouml;tigen Grundinformation; wauml;hrend Veronika Birkes Matthias Rauchmiller - Leben und Werk die letzten Informationsluuml;cken geschlossen hat.
