Idols Behind Altars: Modern Mexican Art and Its Cultural Roots (Dover Fine Art; History of Art)

ePub Idols Behind Altars: Modern Mexican Art and Its Cultural Roots (Dover Fine Art; History of Art) by Anita Brenner in Arts-Photography

Description

Art critic; historian and journalist Anita Brenner (1905-1974) is acknowledged to be one of the most important and perceptive writers on the art; culture; and political history of Mexico. Idols Behind Altars is her influential historical and critical study of modern Mexican art and its roots. It was one of the first books to afford Mexican art the same serious considerations as European and Asian art and remains indispensable for anyone interested in the subject. The works of such major figures as Diego Rivera; Joacute;se Clemente Orozco; David Alfaro Siqueiros; Francisco Goitia and Jean Charlot are examined in the cultural context of pre-Columbian times through the 19th century. Brenners astute analysis of Mexican history; her keen insights into revolutionary politics; and her passionate advocacy of Mexican art infuse this book with seminal importance. 117 illustrations--including some early photographs by Edward Weston--enhance the text.

The Best Guide to Music Production AvailableBy DanZen and the Art of Producing is probably the best book Ive ever come across on the topic of music production (Ive read quite a few). With his witty; signature style more matured than ever; Mixerman takes the reader on a journey through the process of producing a record; complete with all of the "under-the-hood" thought processes and potential trappings that present themselves along the way. It; at once; teaches you limitless creativity and practical boundaries. And that is to say nothing of the treasure trove of leadership guidance presented on these pages. I would give this book a 10/10 for the provided leadership lessons alone.Simply put; if youre interested in producing recorded music; there is no book Ive ever come across that I would more highly recommend!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great book!By Vladimir KornienkoThis great book looks at producing music from all angles reasonably possible; both separately and in complex; including theory; techniques; psychology; economics and whatever else I can think of. Lots of useful info and advice. Very well written and structured. Great humor. I like it very much.
