DOC Il Complesso Di San Salvatore In Ognissanti A Firenze (Saggistica) (Italian Edition) by Marco Pomella in Arts-Photography

Description

Photographer Patrisha McLean moved to the coastal town of Camden; Maine; 18 years ago and found it to be full of characters; in the quirky sense of the word and in terms of the words other meaning; too-people of character. With camera and pen; McLean zooms in on 80 of her most memorable neighbors to create timeless portraits of the people that make one Maine town a truly representative slice of American life.

She said it was easily explained and phonetically broken down wellBy x10ehoMy 13 year old daughter loves that she can read this and learn it without having to hear it. She said it was easily explained and phonetically broken down well. She likes the CD ; but said it isnt even necessary because the book is so well written. She uses it for enhancing accents for theater.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Learn North American AccentsBy Customerldquo;Select the accent to suit the character and make it your own by constant repetition and drilling. Whether you do a real or comically distorted accent; it must be organic and; therefore; internal to the character.rdquo; This book contains more than a dozen distinct accents from across North America. The first chapter gives essential information about phonetics and the mechanics involved in speech (regardless of accent). After that; each accent is presented with background information (including an invaluable list of movies and actors using that accent as well as notes when actors are using their native regional accents); phonetic characteristics that make that accent distinct from others; and practice exercises with words broken down into phonetic writing. The practice CD is particularly useful for the list of consonant and vowel sounds; diphthongs; etc. from the first chaptermdash;itrsquo;s very important to know what sound each symbol stands for. The examples of accents themselves; however; concern me. Irsquo;m not an expert; but I do have some background in phonetics; and the General American accent; in particular; just sounded off. Itrsquo;s definitely not Britishhellip;exactlyhellip;but more of what Irsquo;d think of as ldquo;pretentious Americanrdquo; (an American trying unsuccessfully to sound British or vice versa). Following the phonetic writing in the book (without the CD) resulted in a much more natural-sounding accent; so the text seems accurate enough. This book is a useful quick start to learning North American accents.Randy-Lynne WachReview for San Francisco Book Review
