MillerAfter years of playing light classical piano; I decided to try my hands at playing cocktail piano; piano standards; dinner music; etc. A search for new material led me to this book. I bought it hoping to find fresh arrangements of Crazy World; Moon River; Days of Wine and Roses; and other well-known Mancini tunes. And the arrangements of those tunes are very good.Initially though; I was disappointed with the overall song selection in the book. A majority of the titles looked unfamiliar; and even after fingering through the melodies; I still didnt recognize most of them. But I sat down and practiced them anyway; and Im SO glad I did - these songs have become my new favorites.I have enjoyed playing from some of Keverens other books in the past; but Ive found (often within the same book) that some arrangements sound too thin; and others are needlessly complex. But in this book; every arrangement seems to fit the hands perfectly. Most of the pieces have few technical demands; and the sound is warm; gentle; and full of color.Among my favorites: Dreamsville; How Soon?; Two for the Road; Moment to Moment; and Whistling Away the Dark. These are Mancini songs I had never heard before buying this book. And now I cant stop playing them! I see one of the reviewers mentioned the lack of popular titles. Dont let that put you off. Some of the best arrangements in this book are the lesser known ones. Theyre also the most fun to play (and more importantly; theyre a joy to be listened to).For those who want lyrics; you wont find the words in this book. (Nobody wants to hear me sing; so thats not an issue here.)From a difficulty standpoint; the inside cover says Late Intermediate/Early Advanced; but I think just plain Intermediate difficulty is more accurate. I consider myself just an average player; and was able to work up most of these arrangements with a little practice. My only gripe - I wish chord symbols were present for all the pieces (and this goes for all of Mr. Keverens books.) Chords are included for Dreamsville; but they really would have been helpful on Mr. Lucky and a few others. Mr. Keveren; you really hit it out of the park with this one! Please keep em coming!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A fun collection of Henry Mancinis compositions for MoviesBy Walter KnightA fun collection of Henry Mancinis compositions for Movies. The arrangements are easier than expected for pianoforte; thats Ok: you can improvise to add your creative touch. One addition that could be valuable would be "Linenotes" for each theme-song; telling how theme developed for each movie.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great for Henry Mancini Music Lovers.By TerryI got this mostly to see how well it presented itself in Kindle format on a pad. I also was interested in only couple songs in the book. What I got was a a very fine solo presentation of all the books songs all reminiscent of a Mancini orchestration and arrangement.I recommend this highly for all Mancini lovers.
