I first opened the book in the silence of the early morning when I was sure to have no distractions or interruptions. I immediately found myself ldquo;being in the momentrdquo;; totally immersed in the subject. The chapter ldquo;Hallowed Passagesrdquo; is especially enjoyable. I felt like I was joining the author on his spiritual journey to the San Xavier del Bac Mission as he made colorful observations of the warm desert surroundings outside and then entered the cool interior. His photographs show beautifully crafted saints and angels and richly decorated walls of frescos in brilliant colors and gold guilt. History of the mission is well noted along the journey. It is especially informative. I really loved the poetic quotes throughout the book. It was wonderful to read.If youve ever visited the De Grazia Gallery in the Sun in Tucson; Arizona or the San Xavier del Bac Mission; your eyes were most likely overwhelmed as they attempted to download the dazzling kaleidoscope of numerous images and ornate architectural details. John Annerinorsquo;s book takes you beyond the whole picture; by isolating the images. I enjoyed studying the intricate details of the artworks that are so easily missed. The photography is stunning. As I turned the pages; I commented out loud to myself how beautiful I found the frescoes and the gilded carved plaster. As I read the ldquo;Shrinesrdquo; section of the book; I felt the passion of others and the heartfelt devotion people have for their patron saints. It was a visit to incredible places of prayer and meditation; which those have artfully created to give appreciation for prayers answered and to ask for protection. The DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun is a very special place. I loved the way John Annerino photographed the Mission in the Sun at the gallery. I have seen many people come to pray at the mission and leave small offerings of remembrance on the altar for their loved ones who have passed.Reading his book has expanded my awareness and inspired me as an artist. For me; that is the true beauty of John Annerinorsquo;s work . It makes a wonderful gift. I have given it to many of my friends and family.John was kind to include my own mosaics of Guadalupe and St. Francis in ldquo;Saints *Santos * Shrinesrdquo;. I feel fortunate to have my work in a book of such high quality.Ginny Moss Rothwell0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Sheila CrowderBeautiful embossed cover.
