After finishing the very large tome THE HISTORY OF SURREALISM I wanted something a bit more fun. Maybe Andre Breton will expel me from the group but at least I know now from this book just to layer sweaters on before I come and make everyone laugh. Seriously; this covered everything in a quick; witty; and very Surreal way. I wouldnt say every teen will be reading this but so what--any teen; any adult; any artist interested in Surrealism would. And if you want to think your "weird art" is Surreal without knowing anything about the movement itself then you might find yourself classified as Metaphysical or New Age instead. These people defied and escaped the Nazis; they banded together in New York and Mexico to survive only to be dismissed later by worse: Art Critics promoting Abstract Expressionism. If you want to read another good one try Julian Levys little book as a follow up. This was well written; as far as I could see accurate; and Fun!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
