1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. so Great America loomed large in my childhoodBy Jon BI was born in the Bay Area in 1974; so Great America loomed large in my childhood. From annual trips with my family (with memorable first rides on Willards Whizzer and The Turn of the Century) to school trips and my first season passes in Jr High and constant trips with friends; I really grew to love the park. I moved away in the early 90s; just after riding Top Gun and seeing the Paramount Transformation. So for those of us who grew up with the park; this is a great book. It has some good history; and photos and stories that arent available anywhere else.I give it four stars because I feel like the book veers a little too far towards the positive; and doesnt cover the less sparkling parts of the parks history. This is no doubt a result of the format of the book; being placed in the Images of Modern America series (I have about 5 other books from this publisher); but readers seeking a more in-depth history will have to wait until more of the story can be told.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Nice pictorial on a theme park thats been altered by its varous owners through the years.By K. MartinezI hoped one day that someone would do a book on Paramarriott-Californias Great America. I figured if it could be anyone it would be Steven Wilson from greatamericaparks.com. I grew up with this place from the time it opened in March 1976 through the rest of the 20th century. There are a lot of great photos and information on this bay area park which seems to have survived despite getting the short end of the stick from its various owners. Nice job; Steven. I hope you do a book on its sibling in Gurnee; IL.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Everything you needed to know about the Bay Area park!By Angry_GumballThis book is loaded with neat photos of Californias Great America (CGA); an amusement park in the San Francisco Bay Area that opened in 1976. The book covers from when the park was in its planning phase to its current day. A must for any Bay Area Amusement Park fan!
