Jellys Blues recounts the tumultuous life of Jelly Roll Morton (ca.; 18851941). A virtuoso pianist with a larger-than-life personality; he composed such influential early jazz pieces as "King Porter Stomp" and "New Orleans Blues." However; by the late 1930s; he was nearly forgotten. In 1992; the death of an eccentric memorabilia collector led to the unearthing of a startling archive; revealing Morton to be a much more complex and passionate man than many realized. An especially immediate and visceral look into the jazz worlds of New Orleans and Chicago; Jellys Blues is a definitive biography; a long overdue look at one of the twentieth centurys most important composers.

Very Informative Guide.By Michael O.This is a very handy guide for anyone who owns; or is even seriously thinking about owning; the Canon Rebel XS. I actually purchased THREE of these cameras this summer. One for my daughter (combined birthday and Christmas gifts); my best friend (he paid for it!); and myself. Ive been doing digital photography since 1998 but every camera is a little different and it really helps the learning curve to have a good guide book such as this one to help you get the most of all the available controls. The book is broken down fairly logically into the following sections: The Camera; Software; Lighting; Lenses; Subjects; and Accessories. (I think I would have personally put Subjects after the Camera section; but it all makes sense when you read it. It has tons of full color photos showing the effects of different settings; and how to set them on the camera itself.Since the book is aimed at everybody it has very basic instructions on the most rudimentary of functions like inserting the memory card; etc. But it also covers principles of photography such as depth of field; aperture and shutter speed. Which I found helpful even though Ive been shooting for years. Those of us who started our photography "careers" on digital cameras are woefully ignorant of these concepts because the cameras do all the work for us.Overall; I would recommend the purchase of this guide to nearly all skill levels. Probably advanced amateurs and pro shooters would be a little bored by all of the photography principles that they already know inside and out; but for the rest of us it is a very good guide at a fair price. The book itself is also sized nicely to fit into a camera backpack or medium sized camera bag.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Pretty BasicBy kuNThe book is mostly pretty basic; simple and very easy to understand. Good book for a beginner but will likely disappoint hobbyists and more seasoned photographers. If you already know about aperture; shutter speed; white balance; exposure; and auto-focus settings; then the book may not be very useful to you. It does have a more comprehensive and informative discussion about different type of lenses and Canons own photo software. This photography guide book are nicely presented with pictures that shows the differences between shots. Some pictures because of the size of the book and images are too hard to see the details; like how the difference between a compressed lossy format and an uncompressed samples.Topics also deal with accessories; software; lenses; printers; flashs; etc. It is primarily about Canon brand; that even a lot of photographers prefer some of the Epson brand printers; it was never mentioned.
