While there is nothing technically wrong with this book; ...By Jazz PlayerWhile there is nothing technically wrong with this book; do we really need multiple pages of power chords when the book doesnt even include minor seven or minor seven flat five? I actually think that there was a printing error because some sections were repeated.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Faster Scale Learning with this BookBy Brian D. JohnstonThere are several other books of this type out there; that shows the various notes and box patterns for the Dorian scale; Harmonic Minor scale; etc.; etc. What separates this from the competition is the color coding of the box patterns for much easier visualization and learning. For instance; in a box pattern there may be 2-3 notes per string; and this connects to the next box pattern working up the neck. The first box pattern may be orange in color; followed by blue; followed by green; etc. It shows the overlapping notes; but with each pattern clearly distinguishable by its color. Perfect! What would have taken this book over the edge would have been a listing of chords that would complement each scale; e.g.; you can play the Dorian; Melodic Minor; Minor Pentatonic and Blues scales over a Cmin6 chord. Perhaps this can be a consideration for the next edition. The other cool feature is the Chords section... which covers power chords (e.g.; C5); triads; and seventh chords... again; all color coded with associated notes within the scales. This is a great visualization teacher for relating the chords to the scales. Nicely done!
