Book for movie makersBy H-P VirkkiI think this is one of the best stunt books I have ever read. It goes deep into the essence of making spectacular and challenging shots and scenes. The whole process from the script and storyboards to rehearsing; shooting and everything else you have to be aware of is covered. The book points out the risks which only professionals can see and helps you to understand what kind of experts or special knowledge is required. One after the other; the author introduces professionals who share their real life knowledge about stunts; stunt coordinating; SFX; VFX; working with animals; fight/stunt training; weaponry; sport scenes and crowds - just name it; its all there. My favorite chapter was about "horse casting" sessions. Even the ethics of making decisions concerning the production is brought up. Mr Lane introduces situations you would never think to be stunt or FX related. Like who would guess what burning a candle on a set can entail? If you want to understand the people who create movie magic - read this book. If you want to make your movies safer - read it. If you are a film student; read it before you do anything. If you are a stunt person and want to get the feeling that finally someone understands you - read it.
