There actually isnt a whole lot known about him; especially considering how important of an artist he was continues to be. But the historical information that is known is well presented here; as well as insightful interpretations of his works. There are lots of full color reproductions of his art; and the quality of the reproductions is very good. Unfortunately its a very small book they would have looked so much better at a larger size. Thats my main reason for taking 1 star off the overall rating here. But for anyone interested in Pieter Brughel; this book is really a must have I highly recommend picking it up.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Bruegel and SonsBy Martin PThis wonderful book charts the course of the artistic Brueghel family; from Pieter (the elder) to his two sons; Pieter (the younger) and Jan the elder (apparently Jans son was also a painter). While the book focuses mainly on Pieter the elder (undoubtedly the master of the three) it is interesting to chart the similarities and differences between the father and two sons. The book is compact but filled with brilliant quality stills of the three painters works; and Emile Michel and Victoria Charles do a great job working with the little biographical information known about the three artists; and add historical information with details of Flemish painting between 1400-1600.For fans of Brueghel (s); or of Flemish paintings in general; this is a must buy!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
