On Singing Onstage is an excellent text featuring practical approaches to lyric analysis and interpretation. The book offers a progressive series of technical exercises emphasizing the performers personalized interpretation and performance of musical theatre repertoire. The authors method emphasizes subtext and technical skills such as phrasing and focus; the book does not fully incorporate the breadth of contemporary acting training; but offers some important insights nonetheless. Craigs caustic wit and unparalleled wisdom on the subject make this a fantastic read. I highly recommend purchasing the accompanying DVD set; which shows Craig working with students and applying the concepts introduced in the book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
