I studied the book Stick Control (the starting point for most drummers) and started practicing basic rudiments such as single stroke and double stroke rolls and paradiddles. The problem was that even after three months of constant practice my rolls still sounded very clunky and lopsided. Then I came across Bill Bachmans videos and then this book and then things started to progress really quickly. By learning how to practice with the right stick technique my drumming became faster; more relaxed; and smoother. I highly recommend this book. Once youve mastered the basic stick holding techniques; which take a short while to fully integrate; I believe you too will make progress. Check his videos out; everything becomes clearer from his demonstrations.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great Book on Hand Control!By Fred CockfieldIve only been playing drums for a little less than a year; and after viewing several of the authors videos; decided to order this book. Bill Bachman has an amazing skill set. Not only is he a great player; but he knows how to communicate and teach. As a 40+ year professional player and instructor of guitar and bass; I had great time and chops; but I needed help with the techniques for proper drumming. So I took a few lessons with a drummer Ive played bass with for years; and he taught me a great deal in the two months we worked together. But lessons can get expensive! This is the best stick technique book Ive found. In just a few weeks Ive added finesse to my hands; picked up significant speed (everyones goal) and the understanding that has made me a better player ndash; while minimizing the possibility of injury. If those skills are missing from your practice and performance; I encourage you to pick up this book ndash; it is the antidote for sloppy playing!3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Best technique resource I have seenBy Josh C.Bill is the man! Stick technique is the most comprehensive breakdown and analysis of drumming technique I have ever seen. Not only that; but the exercises and explanations are all arranged in a nice sequential fashion; so you have an idea of what to practice at different stages of development; and not be overwhelmed by all the techniques at once. While this a gem of a book; I rated it four stars because reading about technique isnt always enough; and its a good idea to check in with Bill himself just to make sure youre on right track. If reading about and applying is how you work best; however; more power to you. With Bills mentor ship plus this guide for reference; my facility at the drums has skyrocketed-- this info is a must.
