Beautiful pictures and insightful commentaryBy CustomerThe author did a great job choosing paintings to portray Bonnard work and show his great diversity in themes. However; the text did not always coordinate with the paintings shown and it was confusing. For example; she went to great lengths to describe an important tryptich titled The Mediterranean; yet was showing pictures of gardens and villages vs this painting- why not show this painting- I wanted to see it-she did this repeatedly throughout the book. I can only think she could not get reproduction rights for these paintings yet thought they were too important to leave out of the text. I would still recommend this book however- I had never seen many of these paintings elsewhere.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Good Summary of Bonnard..By Winston houghThe text has a lot to offer Bonnard lovers . The pictures can be enlarged. I have several books on Bonnard. Brodskaya; tells about p. b.s influences; throughout his career; impressionism;cubism; Le Nabis. He used his memory and sketches; no working from the subject. I am enjoying this at lunch at times.Especially; worthwhile is a discussion on how he used color in his work. So much contemporary work is devoid of sex ; sensuality; there is enough here in his Marta in bed stretching. Winston Hough
