Kyoto City of Zen: Visiting the Heritage Sites of Japan's Ancient Capital

PDF Kyoto City of Zen: Visiting the Heritage Sites of Japan's Ancient Capital by Judith Clancy in Arts-Photography

Description

Few forms of music elicit such strong reactions as does heavy metal. Embraced by millions of fans; it has also attracted a chorus of critics; who have denounced it as a corrupter of youthmdash;even blamed it for tragedies like the murders at Columbine. Deena Weinstein argues that these fears stem from a deep misunderstanding of the energetic; rebellious culture of metal; which she analyzes; explains; and defends. She interprets all aspects of the metal worldmdash;the music and its makers; its fans; its dress code; its lyricsmdash;and in the process unravels the myths; misconceptions; and truths about an irreverent subculture that has endured and evolved for twenty years.

Stunning illustrations and amazing history of expeditionsBy Andrea HrickoAn amazing present for anyone on your Holiday list who loves art history; history; gardening; collecting of botanical prints; and historical expeditions!I ordered this book after reading a review of it in Science magazine [...] That venerable journal said that the volume is a "lavishly illustrated" ... "book about 12;000 images; a good number of which are stunningly reproduced in it." It goes on to say that historian Daniela Bleichmar (University of Southern California) "has tapped a treasure trove of botanical illustrations that had lain in Spanish archives mostly untouched since the early 19th century. "I rushed to buy it because I am a lover of botanical prints - and those of you who also are will not be disappointed. But I am also a lover of history; and this book will not disappoint. I had no idea that expeditions of illustrators were sent to lands in the Americas owned by Spain in the late 1700s... nor that they were all commissioned to create true-to-life illustrations of foreign flora!I also work at USC; home university of the author; but have never met her. I look forward to that prospect; but in the meantime I am buying copies of Daniela Bleichmars book for my favorite friends. You should consider doing the same thing!
