LAMPEDUSA - The Island of hope

ebooks LAMPEDUSA - The Island of hope by Guglielmo Trovato in Arts-Photography

Description

Exploring the edge condition of Satilde;o Paulo; Justin McGuirk analyses the different forms of dwelling available to its would-be citizens; and meets some of the people carving a life for themselves on the verge of this unforgiving metropolis. Driving anti-clockwise; we take a journey backwards in time; moving from cardboard favelas and hastily built tower blocks back to modernist social housing and the factory town built early in the last century. Is this a tale; as the Brazilian flag attests; of "order and progress"? Are the citizens of the periphery better off looking after themselves than in the hands of developers and the paternalistic state? Part road trip and part urban critique; this drive-by portrait makes the case that the city is best understood not by its centre but by its edge.

I am an student bass player and have been learning for about 5 years. This book and CD are very helpful. I started w/ the first tune; "Children of the Grave" and was surprised to see that it is recorded on the CD in both standard tuning and drop tuning (3 steps down). This is handy if you dont want to retune just for that song. The book has both standard bass clef notation AND bass tab. The songs are complete; note for note. A great tool for learning Geezers style playing; which is often very fast and busy. The only improvement would be a spiral bound book; as most of the tunes cover several pages and flipping pages is a bit tricky.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
