Description

RIBA Book of British Housing Design looks at the design solutions developed during the 20th and the 21st centuries; and illustrates over 200 of the most successful projects. It provides an overview of the evolution of housing development; and includes present day schemes and estate regeneration as well as special sections on housing in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The photographs and plans of historic and contemporary projects can be used to show design approaches to clients; committees and; in the case of regeneration; with local communities. Looking back into history will indicate which design approaches have been successful. This fully updated 2nd edition includes a new chapter on the development of design concepts and projects built since 1999. It illustrates current trends that have been developing since the turn of the new century; and emphasises the concept of creating sustainable communities. The use of colour photographs adds a new dimension to the first edition in making it possible to appreciate more readily the materials used in the design of the housing and its environment.

A classic!By Claire JordanMy father was a professional jazz guitarist and teacher and this was his "go to" book to teach students how to improve their sight reading chops. He was a masterfully skilled player and he used it to keep his skills honed. It approaches sight reading on the guitar in a very non-threatening; easy-to-apply way. Regardless of how intimidated you may be at the prospect of learning to read music and play it on the guitar; this book will take you through the process painlessly. If you work a little each day or even a couple times a week youll soon know all of the notes on the fretboard and will be able to play them instantly upon seeing them on the musical staff. Its not magic; but with practice; you will be amazed at how quickly you progress.I stupidly gave away my thirty-year-old copy of this book a few years ago and when I wanted to refresh my fretboard and sight reading skills I found that nothing else available holds a candle to this book. I was really relieved to find that it is still in print (I do miss the spiral binding of my old one; but I can take this one to an office store to have the binding changed.) Its a really good book for players of any level who want to seriously upgrade or hone their skills and to be able to play notes on a staff instantly and efficiently.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Now I can Sight Read! It really works.By Ulysses AlvesThis is a great book about sight reading for the guitar player. Ive allways wanted to became a classical guitar player; but written music had been allways a challenge to me. I would keep hours trying to figure out how to play measure by measure. But after reading the first 40 pages of this book I am already sight reading many rhythms and many melodies up to the 8th note. Now I can play without hesitation the simple pieces I am adding to my repertoire.I am very optmist about keeping reading the book; because for the results I have already obtained by reading its 40 first pages I can say for sure that after I read the full book I will be able to sight ready any music sheet and any classical guitar piece.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very effective for its purpose.By ShazThe writing style may be dated and sometimes even a little annoying; but I have to say that this is the best guitar sight reading book that Ive come across so far. The music in here isnt really tuneful per say; but its geared towards drilling you on specific fingering issues that are unique to the guitar as well as teaching you how to effectively read music in a single position; which is much more economical than trying to jump around the fretboard.
