Good photos but poor/non-existent descriptionsBy DR_CJKThe book has an excellent binding and sturdy; semi-glossy paper which should allow for many years of use. The font is easy on the eyes; and the running text gives some insight into Tiffany and his times. Although it is a relatively small book (ca.6" x 6 3/4"); the photos of Tiffanys works are of sufficient size and clarity to provide a basis for some kind of appreciation. There are photos of Tiffanys many types of artworks; such as lamps; windows; vases; trays; and so on which illustrate the broad spectrum of Tiffanys endeavors.When we turn to the descriptions attached to these photos; however; a much different evaluation of the books value needs to be given. For example; many descriptions of Tiffany lamps tell very little about them--"Floral Oil Lamp;" "Floral Hanging Lamp;" "Floral Ceiling Light;" "Table Lamp;" "Hanging Lamp;"with no important indication of size. Some descriptions are simply wrong; such as the one on page 116 which lists the lamp as an "Oil Lamp;" when it is clearly an electrified one in view of the vase cap (which would hinder the release of heat if it were an oil lamp). Other descriptions need not have been given; since they offer nothing informative; such as the intriguing Lotus-variation chandelier which is labeled simply "Geometric Pendant Light" (p. 152) and; again; with no indication of size.Since the book was reasonably priced and covered so many areas of Tiffanys work; I would recommend it as an introduction.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
