Description

In this innovative guide; master art instructor William Maughan demonstrates how to create a realistic human likeness by using the classic and highly accurate modeling technique of chiaroscuro (Italian for ldquo;light and darkrdquo;) developed by Leonardo da Vinci during the High Renaissance.Maughan first introduces readers to the basics of this centuries-old technique; showing how to analyze form; light; and shadow; use dark pencil; white pencil; and toned paper to create a full range of values; use the elements of design to enhance a likeness; and capture a sitterrsquo;s gestures and proportions. He then demonstrates; step by step; how to draw each facial feature; develop visual awareness; and render the head in color with soft pastels.

Nice hints for teachers as wellBy Wayne Errol BowenSome interesting insights backed up with clips to actual scenes from real movies that are analyzed and broken down in the book. I learnt quite a bit. A book I will probably re-read a few times until it all becomes automatic. Nice hints for teachers as well.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I highly recommend this book for any serious student of filmBy C. YorkI highly recommend this book for any serious student of film. And if you are a film lover; then you should get this book.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. GOOD BOOK with insights but not a very polished written book reflecting to its titleBy kreuzLong story short; I recommend this book; you will find a lot of useful information on directing cameras. But the techniques and rules mentioned are more on the surface and lack of depth in terms of building the design of camera movements upon your materials.
