Named for Jose de Jesus Noe; San Franciscos last Mexican mayor; Noe Valley is undoubtedly one of San Franciscos favorite neighborhoods and certainly one of the most picturesque. Yet the area has a rich and varied history reaching far beyond the lovely buildings and lively street scenes familiar to so many citydwellers. Originally part of the Rancho de San Miguel land grant; the area was incorporated into the city and became an early example of a San Francisco enclave situated away from the noise and bustle of the downtown and waterfront areas. Noe Valley gradually became an important residential and business center known for its beautifully restored Victorian homes; as well as for the vibrant commercial corridor on Twenty-fourth Street.

A creative collaboration between one of the co-founders of the popular Foodspotting website and Foodspottings former Head of Community; this Field Guide is a physical representation of what makes the website so great -- food discovery.Highlighting loved dishes around the world; this small and handy book can be that useful companion as you travel the world or simply explore your own neighborhood beyond your familiar dishes. Each dish is accompanied by a photograph (from the actual website community); a brief and educational description; and even an area for your own notes. The book is clearly inspired by bird-watching notebooks and the idea is a clever one for both food lovers and novices alike. The small paperback fits perfectly in your coat pocket and already has made me curious about the many cuisines and dishes Ive never heard of but now want to try. Its the same qualities that have made me a fan of the website and Ive already bought several copies for gifts.Unique; useful; and universal; Im glad to add the Foodspotting Field Guide to my collection!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A must for any travelerBy GwenI first found this book at the Annenberg Space for Photography; but the $15 price tag scared me off. For something that could fit into my hand and a small crossbody purse; I thought that I was better off searching for it on ; where it was 1/3 of the price. The book is a comprehensive and detailed look into exotic; international foods; ranging from South America to Southeast Asia; and beyond. It allows you to fill out what you think of the dish; whether youve tried it; etc. Complete with an alphabetical table of contents to aid you in deciding on lunch; a preface that appeals to the "foodspotters" of the world; and ending on some notes in case you absolutely have to add what other food finds you; well; found; its perfect for the adventurous. Bring a pencil or a pen and some white-out with you when youre filling out this book; because itll help you pick something different to eat when youre exploring local eateries! My only complaint is that the book cover - a starch black - came faded when I received it; despite being branded as "like new" by the seller. The insides; however; were not marked. Nonetheless; Ill continue to take this book with me everywhere I go; in hunt of great eats! Did someone say "injera"?0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Perfect for food lovers who travel everywhere.By Cristian Guajardo GarciaThis is a very simple; yet interesting book.I have been using Foodspotting app for a while and I loved the original idea from the get go. Over time; I have travel to several countries worldwide and to me; one of the best ways to get to know another culture is by visiting the local market and trying their food. Not with all the other tourists; but with locals.I read this book on a plane (Madrid-Lima) and I really enjoyed what I saw. The book goes straight to the point; has a simple tagging method and gave me so much to put in my culinary bucket list for 2015.
