With quite a bit of background on general history of the mountain and visitors (aside from artists) to it; the reader gets a good sense of the general appeal of the peak and the areas surrounding it. Make no mistake though; this is a book about the art inspired by it and it is full of wonderful reproductions of paintings from famous artists like Fitz Henry Lane up to living artists painting the mountain today. The artwork ranges from the sketch to the brave painting; and the text is informative and sublime.
