Description

To Life! Eco Art in Pursuit of a Sustainable Planet documents the burgeoning eco art movement from A to Z; presenting a panorama of artistic responses to environmental concerns; from Ant Farmrsquo;s anti-consumer antics in the 1970s to Marina Zurkowrsquo;s 2007 animation that anticipates the havoc wreaked upon the planet by global warming. This text is the first international survey of twentieth and twenty-first-century artists who are transforming the global challenges facing humanity and the Earthrsquo;s diverse living systems. Their pioneering explorations are situated at todayrsquo;s cultural; scientific; economic; spiritual; and ethical frontiers. The text guides students of art; design; environmental studies; and interdisciplinary studies to integrate environmental awareness; responsibility; and activism into their professional and personal lives.

Excellent reproductions; informative and thorough.By Robert ColburnArt of Katahdin by David Little is a thorough; enticing; informative look at Maines most famous mountain and how it has inspired artists for centuries. With quite a bit of background on general history of the mountain and visitors (aside from artists) to it; the reader gets a good sense of the general appeal of the peak and the areas surrounding it. Make no mistake though; this is a book about the art inspired by it and it is full of wonderful reproductions of paintings from famous artists like Fitz Henry Lane up to living artists painting the mountain today. All in all an important; beautifully designed and printed book for anyone interested in Maine art and artists.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful bookBy Nanci LittleFor anyone who knows this marvelous mountain in Maine; this is a wonderful exposition. The artwork ranges from the sketch to the brave painting; and the text is informative and sublime. If my name is shown in this review; be it know that to the best of my knowledge I am no relation to the author. Hes just made a gorgeous book about a gorgeous mountain that I know well and love much. Very worth a look.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Important book added to Maine art literatureBy S. Bruce BrownDavid Littles book about the many artists who have devoted their talents to recording Mt. Katahdin; a true Maine icon at the beginning of the Appalachian Trail; is an ambitious and generous story that deserves the attention David Little; a talented painter himself; devoted to it. It joins the company of a few other essential books about the rich artistic history of Maine art.
