Im a conceptual guy; and I like explanations; not just instructions. The author says that he figured out that his students who learn the skills in this book do well. By going through the book and taking time on each topic; I feel Im coming to understand the guitar. Hopefully this will let me feel comfortable and confident and be creative. Im a beginner; and this is at the right level for me.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A magic decoder ring for beginning guitar players!By A. JohnsonNew learner on guitar. Can read music (played mostly woodwinds)but never played a stringed instrument. Fretboards or necks without frets have always been a mystery. Enter this amazing book! AMAZING!Chapter 2 on "Root Shapes" is alone worth the price of the book. After less than hour I can just put my hand/fingers on ANY note! Gimme a "G" Okay... here let me play six of em in different locations. Suddenly the fretboard is a lovely map of territory to begin to explore; and not a forbidding landscape.Rush; RUSH to order this book. It will help you understand the physical layout of the instrument and will surely reduce your learning time no matter what method you are using to learn.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Absolutely deliversBy Miles GloriosusAfter almost 30 years of playing in bands; this book is what finally unlocked the instrument for me. I have been working through the exercises off and on for the last 9 months; and am now totally confident that I could find any chord or scale anywhere on the fretboard. I can solo all the way up and down the neck without getting lost; and have enough knowledge of the fretboard to implement other elements of theory during composition. This book delivers exactly what it advertises; wish Id started with it years ago!
