Mahler: A Musical Physiognomy

DOC Mahler: A Musical Physiognomy by Theodor W. Adorno in Arts-Photography

Description

As one reads The Matchmaker; one has to become angry at the travesty that was Hello; Dolly! Whether on stage or on film; it fails to capture the mood of the play or the complexity of the characters. What is charming and delicate in The Matchmaker is bludgeoned to death. Dollys speech about money is one of the most brilliant soliloquies ever written. The Skin of Our Teeth shows mankind surviving various disasters and is life-affirming; even if Wilder isnt convinced weve learnt anything from them. Rightly so. Our Town was a landmark in the development of our theatre. It stripped away lifes trappings to reveal essential truths. In so doing; it avoids Norman Rockwellian treacle and cuts to the heart of what we want to believe we are as Americans.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Our Town revisitedBy CustomerI hadnt really read "Our Town" since I was a sophomore in high school and our English class read and acted out the play.Id forgotten how timeless its lessons are. Im sharing it with my grandson; who will be 16 years old next month and Im loving every minute of it. We will be sharing the stage in a local production the last weekend in February. I truly feel as though I am experiencing "Our Town" from a new perspective. This arrangement has great scene design diagrams for each act; property and costume plots; as well as notes on pantomime; sound effects; etc. Each time I pick it up; I find something interesting and helpful in its pages.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
