Mark E. Smith and The Fall: Art; Music and Politics (Ashgate Popular and Folk Music Series)

ePub Mark E. Smith and The Fall: Art; Music and Politics (Ashgate Popular and Folk Music Series) by Michael Goddard; Benjamin Halligan in Arts-Photography

Description

Drawing on recent ideas that explore new environments and the changing situations of composition and performance; Simon Emmerson provides a significant contribution to the study of contemporary music; bridging history; aesthetics and the ideas behind evolving performance practices. Whether created in a studio or performed on stage; how does electronic music reflect what is live and living? What is it to perform live in the age of the laptop? Many performer-composers draw upon a library of materials but others refuse to abandon traditionally created and structured electroacoustic work. Lying behind this maelstrom of activity is the perennial relationship to theory; that is; ideas; principles and practices that somehow lie behind composers and performers actions. The relationship of the body performing to the spaces around has also undergone a revolution as the source of sound production has shifted to the loudspeaker. Emmerson considers these issues in the framework of our increasingly acousmatic world in which we cannot see the source of the sounds we hear.

Explains different methods of layering color with very good examples from the artists work. Examples of layering color to provide definition to an object as well. This book will be a reference book for me as I continue drawing.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. ExcellentBy CustomerThis book is excellent for me. WOW; I cant put it downBy LKJIm just starting to work in colored pencil. I was basically drawn to this book by the beautiful artwork included. I love the authors work and wish I owned one of her pieces. Ive been ordering a LOT of new art instruction books. When I receive them I always skim thru them until I have time to sit down with them and try out the exercises. But with this one I find I just want to sit down now and read it cover to cover. Each time I pause I learn something. The author presents tons of useful information in a very easy to follow manner. Im thrilled to have this as part of my new library of books. I actually went to the authors website to see if I could purchase a print of one of her pieces. No luck; but I did discover that she offers online tutorials. I may end of doing one or those as her books are amazing!
