Great book but DONT get the kindle versionBy JyazzThis is one of the best books Ive ever read on developing strong melody and melodic phrasing.I bought the kindle version. This was a mistake. Images of examples repeated in spots; which means that 5-6 times in the first half of the book; you miss examples completely because one example will be doubled to the next example. (i.e. hell describe a ii-V-I; have an example for the ii; completely repeat the example for the ii; and then go to the I.) My friend has hard copy of this book and ive compared with it; his examples are fine and mine are stuffed.Id recommend buying the PDF version on his website (google forward motion pdf) because its got a TONNE of cooler features; hasnt got image mistakes and you get access to other things when you buy it1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This book goes way beyond that. Every chapter of this work is full of ideas that are worthy of being analyzed and meditated by the reader. Hal Galpers pedagogical style of writing is proof of his mastery in the jazz subject. The edition of the book might be painfully awful; but dont let that deter you from buying this.
