Mathematics and Music: Composition; Perception; and Performance

PDF Mathematics and Music: Composition; Perception; and Performance by James S. Walker; Gary W. Don in Arts-Photography

Description

An absolute song for an ongoing visit with timelessness. mdash; The New York TimesThis graphic novel by an Expressionist master offers a stunning depiction of urban Europe between the world wars. First published in Germany in 1925; it presents unforgettable images from the tense and dynamic Weimar period; rendered in 100 woodcuts of remarkable force and beauty.A pacifist during World War I; Belgian-born Frans Masereel (1889-1972) sympathized with the struggles of the working classes and strived to make his art accessible to ordinary people. His evocative woodcuts convey scenes of work and leisure; wealth and deprivation; and joy and loneliness. Banned by the Nazis; Masereels works were championed in Communist countries; however; the artist steered clear of political affiliations. His clarity of vision transcends any propagandist use of the images; which stand as timeless indictments of oppression and injustice.Thomas Mann described Masereels works as "so strangely compelling; so deeply felt; so rich in ideas that one never tires of looking at them." Epic and unflinching in its scope; The City continues to influence modern fine and graphic art; while recapturing the mood of a vanished era.

They are a perfect companion to the free course on his website; which is a wonderful resource. Justin is a talented musician and a wonderful teacher.I purchased the Kindle version of this songbook; because the price was right and the hard copy was not available on at the time. It is readable on my 7" tablet while playing; but just barely. It is readable on my Galaxy S7 Edge smart phone; but not at the distance necessary to read while playing. In hindsight; I should have spent the extra money to order the hard copy version off of Justinguitar.com0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The four finger G... Rock on!By JJIve wanted to learn to play the guitar since the second grade. Last spring; I bought a Luna and a few of Justins Songbooks. They are my favorite in my music library. And his online lessons... the best. I cant tell you how tickled I was to hear my guitar produce the first two chords of Every Rose Has Its Thorn. Its like Im MTV Unplugged... simplified. :-) Justin; if you read your reviews; thank you for all you do.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An excellent resourceBy T. L. WhiteGreat coverage and discussion of a tasty selection of songs! My only niggle is that many of the songs dont have chords listed for each verse; which can make getting the lyric timing tricky if you are playing and singing. On some songs the page breakdown is odd...makes it tricky to use the book "live".
