Throughout the writing Desmond addresses history; feminism; race; culture; improvisation and more. The writings on contact improvisation were very relatable to my studies on freestyling in Hip Hop. It was nice to see the correlations and contrasts between the two and how I can use that information to allow one to inform the other. The racial perspective that she wrote from was informative offering one perception of the black dancing body and Hip Hop although I felt that it lacked an element of varying perspective. Overall; it did help to support some of my research and claims on the racial implications that still exist along with how they have and continue to impact Hip Hop.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The book can be enjoyed by professionalsBy Customerldquo;Meaning in motionrdquo; is a collective compilation of essays from some of the leading dance scholars. Taking a ldquo;post-contemporaryrdquo; viewpoint on dance studies to shed light upon pertinent dance studies topics such as corporeal politics; feminism; gaze theory; representation; and cultural appropriation among others. ldquo;Meaning in Motionrdquo; is a valuable tool for positioning dance as a relevant inter-disciplinary phenomena while shedding light upon its history and its ability to influence current events. Rather than dictating outcomes; the authors explore topics in an open-ended way to invite discussion and contemplation. The book can be enjoyed by professionals; scholars; and dance enthusiasts.15 of 18 people found the following review helpful.
