Description

Sammy Davis; Jr. will forever be remembered as one of Americas finest entertainers. An allndash;around performer who could sing; dance; and act; Davis broke racial barriers in the entertainment world and became the only nonndash;white member of the Rat Pack. Only now; however; is Daviss talent as a photographer finally being recognized. In this previously unpublished collection of black and white photography; readers will be fascinated by Daviss portrayals of Andash;list performers; iconic world leaders; and scenes from everyday life. Daviss subjects include dozens of classic celebritiesndash;such as Frank Sinatra; Marilyn Monroe; Paul Newman; and James Deanndash;who are often photographed at their most casual and revealing moments.Accompanying the pictures is an assortment of remembrances by Burt Boyar; a longtime friend and traveling companion of Davis who collaborated with the entertainer on both of his autobiographies. Through a series of memorable anecdotes; Boyar reflects on Daviss many achievements as well as the private moments they shared as friends. Along with Daviss candid shots of ordinary lifendash;from a group of children laughing to a baseball game at the Washington Monumentndash;these stories reveal a side of the performer far removed from his Rat Pack persona. The release of this book will also coincide with the release of Burt Boyars upcoming documentary; Sammy Speaks; created from his extensive archive of taped conversations with the star.

It has both the original Quarto and the revised Folio; (I hope I have the order of names correct). The original version is much darker and the latter version was changed due to public morality and prudishness; in my opinion around the 1700s? I am not sure of the exact date. It probably says so in the advertisement somewhere. Anyway I bought it and it has annotations and both versions. If any of my facts or dates or timelines are incorrect; Forgive my absent minded professor mentality ;)1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Not BadBy EliseI certainly prefer Hamlet and Macbeth; but it was Shakespeare; nonetheless! A must read for any lover of the classics.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Four StarsBy E.
