Modern Recording Techniques (Audio Engineering Society Presents)

ePub Modern Recording Techniques (Audio Engineering Society Presents) by David Miles Huber; Robert E. Runstein in Arts-Photography

Description

Henry Spencer Moore (1898-1986) was arguably the most influential British sculptor of the twentieth century. Brought up in Castleford in Yorkshire; Moore ended his life completing commissions for large-scale public sculptures in countries around the world. The scale of Moores success in later life has tended to obscure the radical nature of his achievement. Rejecting the influence of his teachers and inspired by works from other cultures he saw in museums; Moore championed direct carving; evolving abstract sculptures derived from the human body. He was involved in the modernist Seven and Give Society and later in Unit One.Written by Henry Moore in the 1930s; these three powerful; polemical texts lay out his ideas about sculpture; calling for truth to materials; openness to other sculptural traditions and understanding of the importance of scale.Illustrated with archival photographs and with an introduction by his daughter Mary Moore; this book gives new insights into Moores working methods and inspiration and speaks directly to artists today.

The bungalows in my area are not "pure" bungalows- and Labau says that there is a lot of variation in bungalows and I am now confident that the house I was looking at is a bungalow. Many other books show the 3 classic types of bungalow and thats it. I got the Kindle Edition of this book and it was so helpful that I ordered 2 hardcovers on bungalow design suggested by (in the "you may also like" that were not available in the Kindle Edition. The other two were okay but not as good as this one. I am planning to buy the hardcover of the Labau book because my Kindle is BW so I read it on my tablet. It is the type of book where I would like to look back and another page or ahead and thats tougher for me to do on the tablet reader. Some reviewers commented on the pictures. If you are only buying this for the pictures; it seems that Taunton Press books use many of the same pictures in different titles. If you have others by Taunton Press; some of them may be in this book as well; but Labau has mostly kitchen pictures.20 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Decent quality book - overly repetitive contentBy PhilIll be honest - I bought it for the pictures. We are in the process of remodeling our 1920s shingle craftsman kitchen and wanted ideas. Imagine our surprise when we noticed the same picture on three pages... then another on two.. then another on two. Instead of getting more case studies; the authors just reprinted some photos several times in several chapters to draw out the length of the book. Sure they had additional info in subsequent chapters but couldnt it have just been consolidated to make space for more photos? Also; a number of these kitchens are repetitive and a few are just completely incorrect in terms of bungalow style. But it is a pretty book and the quality of the printing is good. So; three stars...3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Not for the budget minded...........By QueenieNice ideas but tedious; often repeated views of the same kitchen. And; very pricey ideas at that. Very high-end is nice but not what I had in mind at all. I will stick to my own game plan and complete my bungalow kitchen without breaking the bank; thank you very much.
