PDF Money: The Gameshow (Oberon Modern Plays) by Clare Duffy in Arts-Photography

Description

London Wall is a wryly comic look at the life of women office workers in the 1930s. In a solicitorrsquo;s office in the City; Brewer; the office manager; sees pretty new 19-year-old typist Pat as fair game. As some of the more experienced secretaries try to warn her; and others leave her to her fate; her steady boyfriend ndash; an idealistic young writer ndash; desperately tries to win her back. Meanwhile; cynical Miss Janus romantic life seems to be over as she is jilted by her lover at the desperate age of 35... First performed in the West End in 1931 starring a young John Mills; filmed in 1932; televised in 1963; but unseen since then; London Wall is a surprisingly modern look at mens continuing inability to see women as professional equals and colleagues.

And some of that may be the bands fault rather than the biographer because after a point; the Van Halen story becomes kind of a train wreck thats hard to want to know about.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Van Halen textbookBy Shannon O.Ian Christie is an Anthropologist and a Metal Head. He has done remarkable work with structuring Metal and its sub-genres and has provided a textbook structure to the Van Halen story. While its true that the facts and stories in the book are mainly common knowledge among hard-core Van Halen fans; its nice to have it all in one book as opposed to the numerous magazine internet articles scattered about. Its also been quoted heavily by Kevin Dobbs biography of Eddie Van Halen to which Dobbs makes a good point of the lack of material compiled by a decent author.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Truly a rock n roll sagaBy JustinAs someone who has always loved Van Halens music; and been fascintated with all the turmoil that surrounds the band I would definitely recommend this book. To be honest; I had some knowledge of most of what is discussed in the book; but there were still a few things mentioned that I never heard about. The book is an easy yet engaging read; and would probably be a good starting point for any new Van Halen fans (people born after their heyday) that would like to find out more about one of Americas biggest and best rock n roll acts.
