For those like me who; as yet; rarely play high "C" and above; you might be put off by "Look Inside" because many songs are written high. However; I play them an octave lower; for the fun of enjoying the song; and it is a fun way to practice. The collections are truly "jazz standards"; as promised--several Gershwin; ... Since I play lower than written; when occasionally I need to play several notes above the break it is motivating because there arent too many of them and the rest of the song has sounded pretty good. This is obviously not a "purist" review; but I did want to point out that this book can still be a lot of fun--and introduce people to a lot of good music--even if youre at a beginners level.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great book with lots of old standards and newer hitsBy Busy Working MomI bought it for my high school son; a Bb tenor sax jazz player; along with the piano accompaniment for myself; and we have enjoyed lots of the pieces. There are a couple that have range issues (for a tenor sax); but most of the notes are fine for either instrument. There are a few songs that are beginner or advanced beginner; but the majority are intermediate (with some more advanced).I would definitely buy it again.8 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Great for classically-trained pianists interested JazzBy Theodore D. SternbergNo "fake book"; or "real book" this. You get full; well-thought-out harmonizations. This isnt how Jazz pianists acquire their numbers; but hey; this graduate of the weekly visit to the traditional read-the-music-and-play-it-exactly-as-written piano teacher likes it just fine this way. Having played through about 25% of the songs; Ill say there are no really bad arrangements; and quite a few very good ones. The technical difficulty is toward the higher end of the non-classical stuff you find in the music stores -- the average song is about as hard (if you want to play all the notes) as a Chopin Waltz or a Clementi Sonatina.
