Navy Pier: A Chicago Landmark

DOC Navy Pier: A Chicago Landmark by Douglas Bukowski in Arts-Photography

Description

New York Times best-selling celebrity Mark Bego herin delves into another self-made and strong-willed femail star: internationally renowned soul/pop vocalist Tina Turner. Perhaps the defining RB singer of her generation; having won Grammies for "Proud Mary" (with then-husband and musical parner Ike) in 1972 and "Whats Love Got to Do With It?" in 1984; Turners uncanny ability to blend soul and rock has allowed her to capture and sustain a mass audience for forty years and counting. A consistently energetic and engaging live performer; her solo hits-including "Private Dancer;" "Better Be Good to Me;" "Simply the Best;" and the remake of teh Al Green classic "Lets Stay Together"-continue to win her new fans.Beyond the public glitz; outrageous costumes; and well-known exploits with ex-husband and long-time musical partner Ike Turner; the songstress born Anna Mae Bullock has lived an extraordinary life. This revealing; detailed biography not only gives the full story of Turners dazzling five-decade professional career; but also thoroughly explores her turbulent personal affairs. From her modest beginnings as a back-up singer for Ike and their debut single; "A Fool in Love;" to her successful 1980s comeback and the conferring of her "rock goddess" status during the last decasde of the twentieth century; Tina Turner is the authoritative portrait of the flamboyant superstar with the unmistakable voice.

Review on the paperback version (and note for Kindle users)By Bobby W.This is an excellent resource that belongs in every keyboard players library. The book starts with a nice tutorial on basic chord theory. The "encyclopedia" part of the book is great; because they include a chord diagram; both treble and bass notation for the chord; and a picture of the treble fingering. They even spell out the notation; so if your sight reading skills arent the best; you can still read the chord. One thing to note is that the book is only about 51/2" x 8"; so the diagrams and pictures are on the smallish side. This was probably done to save costs. For a reference work; I would have gladly paid a higher cost for a larger format.Another thing to note is that there are some errors in here - for example; the chord chart for E first inversion (pg 132)shows G# as the first note; and in the accompanying photo; the thumb is playing a G. Hopefully there are few such errors.*******Note to Kindle Users:This book is also available in Kindle format. The diagrams look "ok" on the Kindle Fire (again smallish); but when you zoom them; they are very low res. Too bad...4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Picture Chord Encyclopedia: Photos; Diagrams; and Music Notation for Over 1600 Keyboard ChordsBy CintiPicture Chord Encyclopedia: Photos; Diagrams and Music Notation for Over 1;600 Keyboard ChordsPicture Chord Encyclopedia: Photos; Diagrams; and Music Notation for Over 1600 Keyboard Chords - this book is one of the assigned text books by my Jazz Mobile piano teacher; in Harlem; New York City. As fate and fortune would have it Jazz Mobile is in the habit of getting Jazz greats to teach so I landed with Danny Mixon. If you google search him you will hear some fine piano musicianship. If you find yourself in New York and google him you can find his live music performance calendar on line and really give yourself a treat. Like all musicians he travels a lot too; so check out his calendar anyway - you might just get lucky and catch him in your hometown. Any pianist can tell you how extremely important it is to master the chords up and down the scales on piano. The Picture Chord Encyclopedia: Photos; Diagrams; and Music Notation for Over 1600 Keyboard Chords; also contains photographs of the ever so important proper hand positions. It truly is an excellent source for piano players young and old; advanced and beginner. They dont call it the Picture Chord Encyclopedia for nothing. Its all in there. I would be remiss if I failed to mention that on ; I got a book that is absolutely like new for a fraction of the list price - shipping and handling included. Yes; I am a happy camper. Something like this just would not be effective in a Kindle. You really need to handle the book.. :-)3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. picture chord excyclopediaBy easyonmymindBought this book for myself and liked it enough I bought one for my son also. Finding chords in it is not as easy as I would have liked it; I would have arranged them differently; but when you figure out where they are the chord pictures and all are very well done. Like I said I bought 2. I gave it 5 stars because maybe its just me. I have been playing piano for 40 years and just started playing fake music (in the last month) with chords and wish I had not wasted 40 years playing or rather trying to play music just as it is written. Playing by chords has opened up a whole new door for me. I finally feel free to play music as I like to hear it and not stuck to learning 3 or 4 songs. I now play in excess of 100 songs and Ive just started. Fast delivery thank you.
