A powerful new image presentation technique has evolved over the last twenty years; and its value demonstrated through its support of many and varied common tasks. Conceptually; Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) is basically simple; exemplified in the physical world by the rapid riffling of the pages of a book in order to locate a known image. Advances in computation and graphics processing allow RSVP to be applied flexibly and effectively to a huge variety of common tasks such as window shopping; video fast-forward and rewind; TV channel selection and product browsing. At its heart is a remarkable feature of the human visual processing system known as pre-attentive processing; one which supports the recognition of a known image within as little as one hundred milliseconds and without conscious cognitive effort.Knowledge of pre-attentive processing; together with extensive empirical evidence concerning RSVP; has allowed the authors to provide useful guidance to interaction designers wishing to explore the relevance of RSVP to an application; guidance which is supported by a variety of illustrative examples.

Not surprised this classic has a record for most air play - its a beautiful ballad that was clearly destined for greatness via Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. I could listen to them sing this song over and over again at their Hall of Fame induction ceremony. You could just tell from the experience that there was a whole lotta love between these two; the band; the people in the room and the world! This book is a testament to the grueling hard work and faith it takes to make it in an industry where you can be here today and gone tomorrow. In life there are so many lessons to be learned; and I believe it was providential that The Righteous Brothers were inducted when they were before Bobby Hatfield left this realm. Bill Medleys memoirs are of a lifetime performance that are inspirational and bring a certain peace to the soul that longs for an anchor for those things that cannot be seen. Thank you and rock on; Bill!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Very Enjoyable Read about the life of Bill MedleyBy VikingMomI graduated high school in the 1960s so The Righteous Brothers were a part of my teenage years...and because I continued to love their music the rest of my life I couldnt wait to read this book. I stumbled onto an interview of Bill Medley on PBS a month ago and I was sorry it wasnt longer than it was...but that is how I learned about his new book. I couldnt wait for the book to arrive and I enjoyed every page...and was sorry when it was over.....but I greatly appreciated the openness of Bill Medley. I have listened to his music for more than fifty years...did I just admit that?...but now after having read his book I also like the man very much. I could sit on his front porch and listen to his stories.(Mike Marino called Bill a real "raconteur" and I hope people dont miss that about him.) He came to know many entertainers that were big in our time and it was fun to learn of his personal relationships with them. I also appreciated his affection for Bobby Hatfield. I was one of t.he many teenage girls who were at the Cow Palace for the Beatles first and second concerts there and the Righteous Brothers opened for them for the first tour...I then saw them again in San Diego when I was going to college in 1967. This time it was their concert and tour...and it was so very good and it was packed to the gills. I would love to go to a Bill Medley concert now! I wish he would return to the Lake Tahoe or Reno clubs. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the music of the last 50 years...why not...Bill Medley was a part of the scene and generously shares stories about many stars of the time. I am glad that his life has had happiness centered around his family and friends and that he is so highly thought of by his friends. The warmth that his son and daughter spoke of him with was palpable and loving....and he obviously knew when he met the right girl for him when he met his wife of 27 years; Paula. Lastly; I am so glad that this book was written and thought that when Bill Medley met Mike Marino that afternoon....he must have thought hed met just the right person to help him get his story told.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. which is like having a warmBy Diana WinnHaving followed the Righteous Brothers since 1964 (!); I was so thrilled to see that Bill Medley wrote "his" book; which is like having a warm;sincere talk with him about his life and career. I have always admired his professionalism and his music has transported me each and every time I have seen him perform; with and without Bobby. This book seems to come right out of his heart and soul (pardon the pun!) and I did discover many things I did not know about him; though I have been fortunate enough to have seen him every time he or they came to Las Vegas and I have traveled to Laughlin and Reno in Nevada and to places in Southern California to see him or them. This is a wonderful memoir and I recommend it to anyone who knows Bill Medley or his music or to those who should!
