Not for beginners!By Robert MarcheseThis tab book is wonderful in that it collects tunes from all the artists youd expect: Allman Bros.; Lynyrd Skynyrd; The Outlaws; Little Feat (though theyre actually west coast with a southern flavor); and The Marshall Tucker Band. The song choices are strong; too. No complaints. But be warned that there are very few songs that are appropriate for the beginner guitarist. Perhaps "Midnight Rider" and "Willin" are the only ones! The rest are high flying studies in just what makes southern rock music so wonderful: its incendiary and exciting guitar playing.Highly recommended for the advanced player or the player who is up for a serious challenge. Some songs include "Blue Sky" and "Jessica" by ABB; "Heard It In A Love Song" and "Cant You See" by MTB; "La Grange" by ZZ Top; "I Know A Little" and "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent; accurate collectionBy Father of Two BoysThis is an excellent addition to Hal Leonards Guitar Bible series. The transcriptions are all very accurate. Dont drop this one on your foot - its a whopper; but thats to be expected given some of the songs included like Green Grass High Tides and Freebird; which go on for pages and pages laying out all the hot Southern jamming. This collection tabs out all the guitar parts; which can get pretty extensive given the frequent use of harmonized guitar parts in this style of music. It includes most of the big Southern rock hits and fan favorites; but also includes a few lesser known chestnuts like Delanie Bonnies Comin Home; and Little Feats Willin. One might quibble with their definition of Southern rock on some selections. For example; the only thing southern about Mississippi Queen by New York-based Mountain is the mention of a southern state in the title. And of all the Charlie Daniels Band songs they might have chosen to include; why In America? If you like Southern rock; this is a great value in guitar tab and will keep you busy for months. Id love to see a volume 2 on this title.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great CollectionBy Clay M. CappsThis really is an awesome collection! All the tabs are spot on and all guitar parts to all songs are included-a mind blowing accomplishment when you think of all the three guitar blazing shoot outs in here! The selection is also very good; with some favorites that dont make a lot of other collections like Green Grass and High Tides and Willin in here as well. Granted; I also wonder at some of the songs that didnt make it; like Highway Song; Amie and Whipping Post; but you cant please everyone; even in a collection this big. All in all; this is an essential book in THE most guitar oriented and challenging of ALL rock genres bar none!
