Organ-Stops and Their Artistic Registration (Dover Books on Music)

ePub Organ-Stops and Their Artistic Registration (Dover Books on Music) by George Ashdown Audsley in Arts-Photography

Description

Sustainability and Historic Preservation: Towards a Holistic View broadens the horizons of the mushrooming drive to correlate the objectives of these two spheres. To date; discussions of the relationship between historic preservation and sustainability have generally focused on the energy consumption of buildings. The nine chapters in this book show how that agenda can and should be expanded by examining many other facets of the environment; including agricultural lands; urban waterworks; irrigation systems; natural settings; an arboretum; and post-World War II suburbs. Written by specialists from a variety of disciplinesmdash;anthropology; architecture; landscape architecture; and urban history among themmdash;the contents explore new realms in which historic preservation and sustainability can have common purpose. This book addresses subjects of concern to many persons engaged in both fields and argues the case for creating a greater spectrum of common ground between them.

However the text of the book is not nearly as good as the photos. The problem with the text is that it is not as informative as some other books on penguins and it is also not quite up to date for a penguin book published in 2013. In 2012 penguin scientist discovered that the Royal Penguin was a subspecies of the Macaroni Penguin and that the Northern Rockhopper was a separate species from the Southern Rockhopper but there is no mention of it in the 2nd Edition of "Penguin Planet." Also did not see any photos of the Northern Rockhopper.Other than that gripe; "Penguin Planet: Their World; Our World; 2nd Edition" is a nice book. I would not recommend it as a first or second choice for someone who is new to learning about penguins but if you already have several penguin reference books; "Penguin Planet: Their World; Our World; 2nd Edition" will be a good addition to your collection. If you already have the 1st Edition of "Penguin Planet;" the 2nd Edition has quite a few new pictures but also a lot a duplicates. I definitely consider the 2nd Edition an improvement but not everyone may want to own both.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Penguins on Parade!By Mike OConnorKevin Schafers PENGUIN PLANET; THEIR WORLD; OUR WORLD is an appealing photo-guide to those awkward but immensely lovable birds who live in the southern oceans. This 2013 Taylor Trade Publishing paperback is a revised edition of the HC published in 2000.A noted natural history photographer; Schafer clearly has a love affair with penguins. His 138-page book overflows with gorgeous photographs of penguins of all sizes and shapes; young and old; in every situation imaginable. Visually; penguins have always been an appealing part of our world and Schafer captures them in all their colorful glory as they waddle; swim; give birth; waddle; feed their young; fight off enemies; waddle some more and just stand and stare.Yet PENGUIN PLANET is more than just a well-done photo-guide. Schafer is an authority on penguins and he describes the life cycle of penguins and details issues that impact the existence of these unique birds such as global warming; pollution. The book is made up of four chapters - An Unlikely Bird; Built to Last; Life in a Crowd and The Human Factor - but also features some very useful appendices on where to view penguins; the range and status of various penguin species; organizations working to protect penguins; etc..For many reason; PENGUIN PLANET is a must-read book. Schafers compelling photography and his knowledge of and love for the bird combine to make a fascinating guide to those remarkable birds. Highly recommended.
