Our Secret Territory: The Essence of Storytelling (Culture Tools)

DOC Our Secret Territory: The Essence of Storytelling (Culture Tools) by Laura Simms in Arts-Photography

Description

If laughter is the best medicine; The Get Well Book by John McPherson is just what the doctor ordered. Filled with inside laughs about the cures; the pills; and the little indignities that doctors deliver; it will help heal the sick and make the weak whole again. In this sly; slight volume; patients will find a get-well present and greeting card all in one. McPhersons syndicated cartoon Close to Home captures the absurd and ludicrous details of everyday life; then puts a comic twist on them. Filled with seventy-five black-and-white Close to Home cartoons; The Get Well Book is the ideal pick-me-up for anyone laid up in the hospital; facing a medical procedure; or just down with the flu.

Best Source on the TopicBy Bronte MansfieldI never write online reviews; but that this book has a lingering 1 star from a nonsensical review bothers me. I have a background in art history and am writing for a fashion magazine; and turned to this book for a more in-depth look at orientalism in fashion than I had gleaned in my coursework. Well-written and fairly exhaustive; with great illustrations; I currently have this book checked out form the library; but am--and this is a rare occurrence--going to buy this book soon to have it on hand and to have a copy I can highlight/make notes in. Plus; the cover is ridiculously beautiful; I have come expect so little aesthetically from academic texts; that this book surprised me. Do judge this book by its cover: it is as intellectually engaging as it is visually. Also; as an aside; the previous reviewers claims that this book is rubbish because it doesnt consider global trade is laughable. That is all this book is about. And Geczy is correct; unlike the reviewer asserts: Orientalism is a fundamentally Western concept. There is no plausibly denying that.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Recommended reading for fashion scholarsBy Ursula SaarsgaardThis is a great book. An informative read that covers a huge amount of ground. Whatever anyone has to say about this; it will be a book that people interested in the subject of fashion and orientalist will turn to for many years to come.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
