In Look Both Ways; respected branding consultant and design community leader Debbie Millman has constructed a series of essays that examine the close relationship between design and everyday life. Youll find inspiration on every page as you meander through illuminating observations that are both personal and universal. Each beautifully illustrated essay reveals the magic - and wonder - of the often unseen world around us.Excerpt from "Look Both Ways"It occurred to me; as I stood there; that I could simultaneously; vividly look both ways - backward and forward; in time - at once. I remembered longing to know what was coming; who I would become and how. And I suddenly saw it all over again in front of me. The light was exactly the same; and as the sun fell and the summer shadows slivered against the elegant; lean; concrete towers in the distance; I recognized the smell of the warm air; the precise pink and grey of the coming dusk and the mysterious melancholy and joy of both knowing and not-knowing; and the continuity that occurs when both collide.#151Debbie Millman

Not a good book for newbies under 40By Todd WoolgarI was disappointed in the song selection. There were so many songs pre 1965 and boring in my opinion. Pieces from musicals? But my biggest disappointment is the quality of the book. There are so many pages crammed into it it makes flipping through hard. I found one song I went back to often and it took less than a week for the page beginning to rip at the seam. Basically this page is now hanging on about half torn out. The other thing and it is my fault for not doing better research but they do not include finger numbers in the diagrams. If you are a newbie figuring out what finger to use can be hard. With this book you will need to look it up. I would not suggest this book or buy it again if you are a newbie. Probably for someone 50 or older who is already a good player.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. There are sooooo many good songs to learn also. Ive got another book that I use much less often even though its a little smaller and has some of the same songs because the versions are slightly different and I prefer these; they sound closer to the originals! That being said my neighbor; whos very advanced; was flipping through when we were jamming together one night and was threatening to steal it and busted out some awesome songs that I havent attempted yet; something for everyone!
