Pamphlet Architecture 26: Thirteen Projects for the Sheridan Expressway

DOC Pamphlet Architecture 26: Thirteen Projects for the Sheridan Expressway by Jonathan D. Solomon in Arts-Photography

Description

Architects Draw offers a practical and invaluable way to help students and would-be sketchers translate what they see onto the page; not as an imitation of reality; but as a comprehensive union of voids and solids; light and shadows; lines and shapes. For nearly forty years revered Cooper Union professor and artist Sue Gussow has taught aspiring architects of varying abilities how to fully observe and perceive the spaces that make up our physical environment. Gussow skillfully applies architectural language to twenty-one drawing exercises that tackle a variety of forms--from peas in a pod to monkeys; skeletons; dinosaur bones; and the art of Giacometti and Mondrian. She shows; for example; how cut fruit and paper bags reveal that the physical world is made up of planes; dimensions; and enclosed space.

Most of ABBAs songs are included; for sure all hits - but its not all songs. So the title Complete Songbook is not 100% correct...6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Excellent source of ABBA music informationBy Wayne HaddenEvery song; every word; great fun to sing along with great music byABBA.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Songs Without Music?By ZJohnAnother example of the perils of Internet buying where there is no adequate product description or thoughtful customer reviews.Book is admittedly loaded with material--192 pages of lyrics and guitar chords for 39 ABBA songs; but there is NO MUSIC NOTATION--no clue whatsoever as to the actual melodies. In order to make use of the lyrics or the chords; you must either (1) already know the tunes; or (2) learn them from some other source.I wanted to work out simple solo guitar (guitalele; actually) versions of a few ABBA favorites;which I already knew somewhat. However; being able to "hum a few bars" is NOT a substitute for having all the notes (as well as rhythmic and structural elements) clearly set out in musical notation. Its one thing to have a song in your heart; quite another to know the actual notes.Despite this fatal fault; the book does apparently provide the lyrics to all the song verses; and the guitar chords (with charts) seem adequate. The book states that the keys are the same as in the original recordings (mainly A; D and C); so I suppose you could play along with a recording and learn the tunes in that fashion.Book size is 9-3/4 by 6-7/8 inches; which is less than full music sheet size (since theres no music) but is nicely printed and fairly legible to my ageing eyes. Unfortunately; the binding is far too stiff to use on a music stand or (for lazy players like me) propped open on a coffee table. If you wish to use it while playing; youll need somehow to remove the pages.Incidentally; I ordered this thinking the price (as stated) was $13.61 but ended up being charged $10 more than that. Caveat emptor.
