Writing this book is the second most difficult thing I have ever done; next to burying Casey. On April 4; 2004; Cindy Sheehan learned that Casey; the eldest of her four children; had been killed in Iraq; where he was serving in the United States Army. After struggling through crippling grief for three weeks; she came to an epiphany: "I will spend my life trying to make Caseys sacrifice count for peace and love; not killing and hate." Peace Mom is the heartfelt and profoundly moving story of Cindys journey to activism. She recounts the dark days following Caseys death; when it seemed her life would never have meaning again. She tells of her June 2004 meeting with President Bush; and how that encounter ultimately set her on a path that would take her to hearings in the Capitol; test old friendships and family ties; and culminate outside Crawford; Texas; in a monthlong peace action that would draw thousands of supporters and worldwide attention. Here are the stories Cindy has never shared before about her own experiences at the center of a media firestorm; the life-altering events that were sparked by her simple act of defiance one hot August day in Texas. Going behind the headlines and sound bites; Cindy writes candidly about the toll her activism has taken on her own life and her family; as well the unforeseen rewards her quest for peace has brought. Through days of rage; despair; laughter; and tears; Cindy has found ways to celebrate the life of her son Casey and give meaning to his death. Her story points the way to a future of peace and justice for the world and for our children. Heartrending and powerful; Peace Mom is at once an honest account of one womans triumph over loss and a clarion call to all those who wonder if they can make a difference.

First page had four stains; which looked like discount coupon was removed from it. Exterior had minor damages; probably due packing. Story is fascinating; but felt like handing a cheap pocketbook as present1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The Complexities of CreativityBy Roy AbbottA tremendiious story about the complexities of creativity. As a retired architect; I bought the book because I realized that I was a little fuzzy about the details of the competition/design/construction. I knew the story of Saarinens pivitial role in the architect selection process; and I knew that Utzohn (the architect) resigned under pressure and did not finish the project. What I did not know; and the book makes clear; is that Utqon did not know how to finish the project; and the completed project does not meet the owners stated requirements. It is nevertheless a masterpiece that has served Sidney well and inspired millions. Strange stuff!2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. ICON DOWN UNDERBy Shannon DeasonEverytime I see a picture of this building it never ceases to take my breath away: just a spectacular building. This book is fascinating; I really had no idea all the controversy involved in building this building; it just seems so perfect for its harbor perch. The images in this book are wonderful and the text is very interesting and easy to follow. I find it amazing that the architect has never actually seen his masterpiece; how does that happen? The design is brilliant and totally original. Every city wants an icon and Sydney is lucky enough to have two; this building and the Sydney Harbor Bridge; and though each building is totally different in style; they are perfect foils for each other and they make the Sydney Harbor one of the most beautiful places on earth. Wonderful book on a spectacular building.
