Performance Theory: Volume 84 (Routledge Classics)

DOC Performance Theory: Volume 84 (Routledge Classics) by Richard Schechner in Arts-Photography

Description

Few have had quite as much impact in both the academy and in the world of theatre production as Richard Schechner. For more than four decades his work has challenged conventional definitions of theatre; ritual and performance. When this seminal collection first appeared; Schechners approach was not only novel; it was revolutionary: drama is not just something that occurs on stage; but something that happens in everyday life; full of meaning; and on many different levels. Within these pages he examines the connections between Western and non-Western cultures; theatre and dance; anthropology; ritual; performance in everyday life; rites of passage; play; psychotherapy and shamanism.

Review
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Behind the scenes in real estate developmentBy G. A. DeanIf you work in a field related to real estate development; this is a great book to read. The author tracks the development of a small subdivision from initial planning to government permitting to final sales. All the while; he provides insight into the evolution of residential real estate sales in the US; and the varying perspectives of the main characters in the process. This is a great read for urban (and not-so-urban) planners. I highly recommend the book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. easy read for technical info.By Customerive only read 6 chapters. it is a book that a professor required us to read. it reads like a novel; even though it is full of information regarding (sub)urban planning. easy read for technical info. looking forward to other chapters.3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent OverviewBy C. BeaudoinA great book for anyone who has driven through the ex-urbs lately and wondered why and how suburban development is the way it is. A good primer for both the aspiring residential developer and the township board member.
