Im a musical theatre major and this book was recommended material for my auditioning course. Its one of a kind in comparison to all other monologue books Ive used! I love that that In Performance is an ENTIRE book with monologues for my castable age range; rather than a book with all ages and only 2 or three that work for my age. Another wonderful thing about this book is that it isnt simply a collection of monologues; its a concise yet detailed guide for actors and students as well! The author; JV Mercanti; helps the readers be performance and audition ready through his analysis of the play and scene to which each monologue belongs. His guide and analysis would be quite helpful for an actor who has a last minute audition and doesnt have time to read an entire play before he/she auditions or quite helpful for an experienced actor who has allowed plenty of time to prepare and is intelligent enough to use this accessible quality monologue book. Simple; easy way to get the most out of your monologueBy E BerkI hadnt realized how in-depth you really have to go before being performance ready; and man did this book teach me that. There are so many smart; informative tools for each monologue; its essentially like having a monologue coach there with you. But this book also teaches you how exactly to dissect a monologue; and what to look for to ensure youre doing one that really fits you. I only wish there were more of these books! FantasticBy Ronell HurtI got this book at the beginning of week and I have to say; so far this book has been amazing me. There are not a lot of monologues within this book but there is a lot of insight into what you need to have a successful audition and why monologues and plays are important.
