Largely avoids Bourbon street and focuses on neighborhoods where people live; work and play. Great guide to Bywater music venues and restaurants; as well as clubs in parts of town a traveler wouldnt find otherwise. Keeps it real; too with Melbas po-boys and Fradys market; but acknowledges the alt-cool-Brooklyn-circa-2003 scene going on there as well.And recommends bands and not just the venues. Soul Rebels; Hot 8; and Kermit Ruffins! DJ Soul Sister at the Hi-Ho! Punk shows at Siberia! Just the cats pajamas.Also; by coincidence; met the author at a random book fair during my trip. All the categories (bars; restaurants; etc) are listed alphabetically. So; if you want to go to a particular hood and know everything thats around; you have to scan the entire book. How bout few pages of a map with referenced dots? That would help.
