Well Written and Well Illustrated "How To" BookBy Ann de Vries"Artful Collage from Found Objects" is a very well written and well illustrated "how-to" book for someone new to; or fairly new to collage making. The author combines a smattering of personal anecdotes; with lists of materials needed; reasons for using specific materials; instructions for using the materials; and reasons for doing things in a certain way. As well; she illustrates the book with photographs of the assembled materials; the works in progress; and the finished project.Personal anecdotes are kept to a minimum and are directly related to specific projects. The information is presented in very understandable and useful illustrations and text. What the author has done and why the author has done what she has; in a specific way; are then linked to ideas about what the reader could do to use and adapt the information provided. The author makes the reader part of the conversation and there is the sense that the author always keeps in mind that she is teaching the reader how to make personalized collages. My taste is not the same as the authors; and I didnt care for a number of her completed projects. However; the author did such an excellent job of presenting the methods used in designing and completing a collage; that it would be easy enough to design ones own projects. I would recommend this book to anyone who has little to no experience in making collages; but is interested in learning some of the best methods and materials for success.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Finding my inner artist with found artBy Becky (in NOLA)Im one of those people who have a fascination for found objects. Pictures tucked away in books I get from the thrift store; bits and scraps on the ground. I never thought to make a collage from them; until I discovered this book. The first few chapters talk about backing; stamps; frames; things to make your artwork look even better once you get started. The book is easy to read and follow; full of interesting examples; and very helpful on how to turn your found objects into a work of art.Im not super artistic. Drawing a stick figure is about my speed and even then one stick arm and leg are usually longer than the other. but even I; hopeless creature that I am when it comes to creating the beauty I see; can follow along and glue and paste and the advice and tips on placement; proportion; theme; are incredibly helpful.Get this book and start finding and using those neat little bits and bobbles that hang around just begging to have something be done with them!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great for Kids/Not for intermediate or advanced artistBy CustomerFor kids/ or novice who like to cut and paste. Not for an intermediate or advanced artist. This book would be great for kids but there are no real art techniques to be found in this book. Im returning it.
