audiobook Physical Culture; Power; and the Body (Routledge Critical Studies in Sport) by From Routledge in Arts-Photography

Description

During the past decade; there has been an outpouring of books on the body in society; but none has focused as specifically on physical culture - that is; cultural practices such as sport and dance within which the moving physical body is central. Questions are raised about the character of the body; specifically the relation between the lsquo;naturalrsquo; body; the lsquo;constructedrsquo; body and the lsquo;alienrsquo; or lsquo;virtualrsquo; body. The themes of the book are wide in scope; including: physical culture and the fascist bodysport and the racialised bodysport medicine; health and the culture of riskthe female Muslim sporting body; power; and politicsexperiencing the disabled sporting bodyembodied exhibitions of striptease and sportthe social logic of sparringsport; girls and the neoliberal body.Physical Culture; Power; and the Body aims to break down disciplinary boundaries in its theoretical approaches and its readership. The authorrsquo;s muli-disciplinary backgrounds; demonstrate the widespread topicality of physical culture and the body.

A personal account of cross seeking and lore...By Chimquente SuurAn odd little book; not without merit; yet a rambling and highly personal account of the authors lifetime hobby of collecting actual handmade crosses. Interposed is some unreferenced and anecdotal history. Published privately in 1934 and reissued by Dover. Not exactly the scholarly starting point I sought for a history of the use and forms of the cross; but some worthy information in it.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good basic book on CrossBy NaraThere are few books written on Cross. This is a very good basic book Cross. Written by a true collector of antique Cross from all over the world. It also contains some illustrations. We must understand the story behind this major icon of the Church.I am very glad to get this book for study and I like all the detalis presented here.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great HistoryBy Katie AllredI needed this book for a project that I was doing on the historical significance of the symbolism of the Cross and this book covered it. It really is thorough; concise; and enjoyable to read. You can read my post here: [...]
