It was much easier to read than I expected such an old play to be. A warning about our lack of sex education 100 years agoBy A. Marie DavisThis play is an early plea for the education of children and teens in the facts of their own sexuality. Although I have not seen a production of it; I would like to; but I imagine that it may be too obscure for most theater groups today. The message of the tragedy that can arise from the sexual ignorance of young people should still resonate with us in 2013: our rates of teen pregnancy as well as of abortion testify to the results of unprotected sex -- even rape -- and unplanned pregnancy. Well worth reading in English and even more powerful in the original German.
