Picasso and the Chess Player: Pablo Picasso; Marcel Duchamp; and the Battle for the Soul of Modern Art

DOC Picasso and the Chess Player: Pablo Picasso; Marcel Duchamp; and the Battle for the Soul of Modern Art by Larry Witham in Arts-Photography

Description

In a declaration of the ascendance of the American media industry; nineteenth-century press barons in New York City helped to invent the skyscraper; a quintessentially American icon of progress and aspiration. Early newspaper buildings in the countrys media capital were designed to communicate both commercial and civic ideals; provide public space and prescribe discourse; and speak to class and mass in equal measure. This book illustrates how the media have continued to use the city as a space in which to inscribe and assert their power.

Arrived well packaged in a hard-sided book style shipping box. Got here on time and was in perfect condition. Gorgeous illustrations and the perfect size for a lovely coffee table or bedside book. There are LOTS of images of his finished works with a nice balance of text. This makes a great gift for any Mucha fan or general lover of art. I knew it would be smaller in size; but that was actually perfect for gifting because it doesnt take up a huge amount of room; yet the square shape and hardcover still makes it feel weighty and very high quality. Special little book! Highly recommended. :)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Love it! Im surprised at the number of prints ...By Melody S.Just got this in the mail. Love it! Im surprised at the number of prints it has that Ive never seen before and Im a big Mucha fan who has studied his work for years. So the rare prints were a very pleasant surprise. The only negative I would say is how small this is and thats probably my fault for not paying attention to the dimensions. Its only "6 x 6" so keep that in mind. I was more focused on the number of pages when I ordered this how many plates it has since some art books tend to be stingy on the picture: text ratio. But this is a good 250 booklet with very nice quality color images of his work that takes up most of the book. And you cant beat the price. Worth it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
