Description

This updated edition of Costumes for the Stage aims at simplicity in all aspects of designing and making costumes. It is designed primarily for those who need to dress plays on a small budget; whether for amateur; semi-professional; or professional groups. Starting with five pages illustrating the basic shapes of each period; Sheila Jackson provides practical advice for every kind of play; together with drawings; diagrams; and patterns from which to work. Included are sections on Greek plays; medieval miracles and mysteries; Shakespeare; seventeenth century; eighteenth century; Victorian and Edwardian costume; the twenties and thirties; and the present day. Each section covers the details of mens and womens clothes (hats; collars; shoes; jewelry; etc.) as well as methods for adapting and simplifying the style of the period. There are also sections on pantomimes and musicals; pageants and school plays; and invaluable advice on underwear; fabrics; measurements and fitting; the use of color; and simple ways to make masks; crowns; and decorations. The revised edition features expanded text and new illustrations. Hundreds of line drawings and no-nonsense; authoritative text combine to make this an essential book of costume design.

Valuable guide for those building and or renovating . . .By Dubyah BeeRather small in size; but great guide to best products for various situations.5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Must Have for Drywallers - Also known as "The Bible" among interior contractors.By no thanksI work for a drywall subcontractor as an estimator for Multifamily Projects. Ive worked in construction for about 7 years and in that short amount of time Ive seen countless changes. Whether it be products; project design; or software; technology and the introduction of a new generation of workers is pushing the industry forward at a breakneck pace. Codes and "best practices" are always evolving and handbooks like this are a great reference tool. Unfortunately; the architects responsible for designing the project; in my opinion; are overwhelmed by the advances and do not always spec/detail their projects with the correct materials or assemblies. So having a guide like this handbook gives me the documentation to explain why a certain condition is not ideal or just not appropriate.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
