I still take it off the shelf and flip through the pages; pausing here and there to read the stories behind the images. No; its not a technical manual; although there are some lighting diagrams included. Its enjoyable to me (and educational) to hear a photographers thought process. There are a thousand and one places to go for a lighting education. Dont buy this and expect to light like Grecco after reading it. Be happy if you can at least think a bit like him when you are considering making a portrait. Ive watched a lot of photographers and most of them throw up a light or two and are ready to take a picture. A few process things in their minds before they ever set up a light or schedule the talent. Michaels one of the few.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic book for the ProBy JeffreyLThe author is a phenominal photographer. This book wont satisfy you if you are looking for technicals or a how to.What this book does is let you into the authors thought process of how and why he has made the photo. Its what really separates the pros from the average photographers. The thinking or idea behind the photo to tell the story and thats exactly what the author does. So; if looking at this book realize this book will not teach you how but why.Spectacular insight inside the authors thought process.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. wonderful peek into the world of reknowned pro photographerBy JamiThis book is everything I had hoped. I wanted to see how the "big guys" get such gorgeous shots. Its true that just owning an expensive dSLR does not make you a professional; it takes practice; lots of photo shoots; and; most importantly; an eye for creativity. Grecco is an extraordinary photographer. I know Ill probably never be photographing celebrities or have the budget for a clan of assistants and high price lighting equipment; but some of his techniques I can certainly adapt. This is a wonderful book with enough tips and beautiful images to inspire any photographer.
